Many will have visited or heard about the award-winning extension and refurbishment of Halifax’s Square Chapel Arts Centre. The architect for this scheme was Robert Evans of Evans Vettori, based in Matlock, Derbyshire.
Robert, a graduate of the University’s School of Architecture, is a rising star of the profession having won RIBA National Awards in 2015,2016 and 2018 , Civic Trust Awards in 2015 and 2017 as well as a number of regional, housing design and ecclesiastical awards.
Evans Vettori, founded by Robert and fashion designer Mariangela Vettori, has built its reputation with sensitive modern architecture in historic settings and Robert will talk about several award-winning projects, including Square Chapel, ‘Parkside’ in Matlock as well as large university projects in Clifton and Brackenhurst for Nottingham Trent University.
Robert’s work exemplifies the fact that, while each project is site-specific, there is a consistent approach involving detailed site analysis and highly contextual design. This will provide a stimulating insight into the opportunities for good modern architecture in the context of urban settings.
