DESIGN AWARDS 2015
The winners of the HCS Design Awards 2015 were announced at a special presentation ceremony held at Huddersfield Town Hall following the society's AGM on the evening of the 1 March.
Category winners included awards for the Best New Development, Best Refurbishment, Best Shop Front, Best Residential, the Examiner Readers' Award and a special Community Enhancement Award.
The overall winner was Castle Hill Capital Holdings, for its conversion of 18 Wood Street into student accommodation. David Cambridge and Abid Bashir received the award from HCS President, Richard Ward, who said: 'This has been a careful restoration of an important historic building , with the addition of a contemporary new entrance feature and provision of quality student accommodation within. It is an important improvement within the Town Centre Conservation Area and in its relationship with other notable buildings.'

BEST NEW DEVELOPMENT:36 -48 High Lane, Newsome (Developer, Marsden Contracting; Architect, Farrar Bamforth)
BEST RESIDENTIAL:18 Wood Street, Huddersfield (Developer, Castle Hill Capital Holdings; Architect, Igloo)
BEST SHOP FRONT:Adam Shaw Couture, 28 Lidget Street, Lindley (Design and construction, Adam Shaw and Paul Smith)
BEST REFURBISHMENT:Spring Lodge, 27 Woodthorpe Terrace, Huddersfield (Client, Inderpal Chahal; Architect, Zero Architecture)
HUDDERSFIELD EXAMINER READERS’ AWARD:Huddersfield Leisure Centre, Springwood, Huddersfield (Client, Kirklees Council/Kirklees Active Leisure; Architect, AHR)
COMMUNITY ENHANCEMENT AWARD: Milnsbridge Boulder Project, Crow Lane Recreation Ground, Milnsbridge (Developer, Milnsbridge Enhancement Group)
