Heritage Open Days is England’s biggest festival of history and culture. Every year, over four days in September, thousands of sites across the country invite you in to explore local treasures of every age, style and function, and many special events are held. It’s your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – and it’s all FREE.
The local programme has been coordinated by the Kirklees Heritage Open Days Committee and includes 57 sites and events forming the largest Heritage Open Days programme Kirklees has enjoyed, coordinated across the whole district.
The national themes this year – Conservation Areas 50th Anniversary, Heritage and Nature, and LGBTQ – are supplemented in Kirklees by a Textile Heritage theme.
